Stellar (Hangul: 스텔라, stylized as STELLAR) is a South Korean girl group whose line-up is composed of Ga-young, Min-hee, Hyo-eun and Jeon-youl. Formed in 2011 by The Entertainment Pascal,[fn 1] the group attracted attention as they were initially produced by Eric Mun of the boy band Shinhwa. Following an unsuccessful debut with the single “Rocket Girl” in August 2011, Stellar underwent a line-up change and released “UFO” in February 2012, which fared similarly.
Secret (Hangul: 시크릿) is a South Korean K-pop girl group formed by TS Entertainment in 2009. The group originally debuted with four-members: Jun Hyoseong, Jung Hana, Song Jieun and Han Sunhwa. Former member Han Sunhwa officially departed from the group in October 2016. They released their debut single “I Want You Back” October of 2009.
Hello Venus (Hangul: 헬로비너스; often stylized as HELLOVENUS) is a South Korean girl group formed by Tricell Media, a joint venture between Pledis Entertainment and Fantagio, in 2012. It was announced in July 2014 that the two companies had ended their partnership, with the remaining members continuing under Fantagio.
Red Velvet (Hangul: 레드벨벳) is a South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment. The group debuted on August 1, 2014, with their digital single “Happiness” and with four members: Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. In March 2015, fifth member Yeri was added to the group.
Since their debut, Red Velvet has experienced notable success and recognition. Their first EP, Ice Cream Cake which was released in March 2015, topped the Gaon Album Chart on the 12th week of 2015 and in September 2015, the group’s first full-length album, The Red, also topped the Gaon Album Chart and the Billboard World Albums Chart. Red Velvet has received a total of thirteen music awards, including two awards for choreography; Best Dance – Female and Best Dance Performance – Female Group, as well as three new artist awards.
Black Pink (Hangul: 블랙핑크), stylized as BLACKPINK or BLΛƆKPIИK, is a South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment and the first girl group to debut under the same entertainment seven years after 2NE1. The group consists of four members: Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé. They officially debuted on August 8, 2016 with the single album Square One. Black Pink fans are called “Blink”.
GFriend (Hangul: 여자친구; RR: Yeoja Chingu; stylized as GFRIEND) is a six-member South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consists of Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. They made their debut with the EP Season of Glass on January 16, 2015. GFriend won several 2015 female rookie awards and has garnered momentum since their debut, despite coming from a small company. In 2016, they continued their success with their third EP Snowflake and won first place on many music shows with the title song “Rough”. They released their first full-length album LOL in July 2016.
Twice (Hangul: 트와이스; stylized as TWICE) is a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment through the 2015 reality show Sixteen. The group is composed of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group debuted on October 20, 2015, with the mini-album The Story Begins.
Kara (Hangul: 카라, Japanese: カラ, often stylized as KARA) was a South Korean pop girl group formed by DSP Media in 2007. The group’s final lineup was composed of Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, Goo Hara and Heo Youngji. Members Nicole Jung and Kang Ji-young officially departed from the group in 2014, while Kim Sung-hee left in 2008. The group’s name comes from the Greek word “chara” (χαρά, lit. “joy”), which they interpreted to mean “sweet melody”. The group’s fanclub is known as Kamilia.
